WELCOME TO WHITESTONE CHAPEL

PRE SERVICE SONG: CHAIN BREAKER

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: O come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker.

All: For he is the Lord, our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.

Leader: O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. Let the whole earth stand in awe of him.

All: For he comes to judge the world; he will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his truth.

OPENING HYMN:  GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS

Leader: We are the people of God,

but Scripture reminds us that we still sin.

We need to confess our failures,

knowing that the Lord Jesus intercedes for us with the Father,

who freely forgives us, through his infinite goodness and mercy.

So let us draw near to God with sincerity and confidence, and pray together.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

All:  Holy God, Father most gracious!
Rebuke us not in your anger,
nor chasten us in your wrath!
Heal us from our sin,
 for we are troubled.
Deliver us for the sake of your steadfast love.
Our sins trouble us, O God.
We are troubled by how they have hurt others.
We are troubled by how they have hurt us.

Your ways are right! O righteous God!
And whenever we have refused to follow them
we have found out how right they are.
Have mercy on us, O God.
Holy God, God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us for the sake of your Son,
who died to free us from our sins.
To you be honour and glory!

Amen.

Leader:  Through Jesus Christ, forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. In Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

All: This is the good news: In Christ we are healed, restored, forgiven!

STATEMENT OF FAITH

Leader: We say the Creed together

AllI believe in God, the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.  Amen.

PRAYER BEFORE READING

All: Our heavenly Father, we ask that You would enable us to see the truth about Your body, Your people, Your assembly, Your Church; and from Your word, believe it, embrace it, and live it for Jesus’ sake, Amen.

READING: MATTHEW 6:25-34

read by Hansie Kandora

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matt. 6:25– 34).

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

led by Sarah Cronje

Leader:  Father, we pray for the nations of the world, and for their leaders. We pray especially for our own country, Zimbabwe, for all who have authority or influence.

(open prayers)

Lord in your mercy

All: Hear our prayer.

Leader: Father, we pray for your church throughout the world. We pray especially for your church that meets here at Whitestone Chapel.

(open prayers)

Lord in your mercy

Hear our prayer.

Leader: Father, we pray for all those who are in any kind of sickness, trouble or distress. We pray especially for those known to us.

(open prayers)

Lord in your mercy

Hear our prayer. Amen.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name:

your kingdom come; your will be done on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever.

Amen.

BENEDICTION

All: Gracious lord, we give you thanks for calling us out of the darkness

and into your glorious light.

When we remember the price you paid,

the death of your only Son,

we can only wonder and marvel at the greatness of your love.

We give our gifts and our lives to you Lord,

and pray that through your Spirit you would teach us

how to live according to your will.

Send us out now to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of your mercy.

We pray this in Jesus’ name.

Amen
